It permeates both our personal and work lives. Almost everyone has some sort of  account. It  also  plays an especially important role in job searching, which is what well be discussing today. Think Differently As professionals, it is our tendency to immediately  think of  LinkedIn when social platforms are  discussed in terms of job seeking. While this isnt wrong, there are many things a vigilant job seeker should think of with social media.  Along with LinkedIn you must also think of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest.  In addition to larger companies, there are  also smaller more specialized social platforms that  have their own benefits of use. With so much out there it can be tough to keep track of what to be doing on what platform, and were here to help. Maintaining Professionalism on Social Media Firstly, across all platforms, job seekers should maintain a professional stance. Its okay to post fun photos, but make sure its nothing you wouldnt want a hiring manager to see. We all live in a very digital age, which means information is easily accessed by almost anyone. With that in mind, keeping anything embarrassing off social media will make a big difference. Before posting anything, you should always be in mindset of mentally content checking to make sure it is appropriate. Another thing to keep in mind is mentions and tags. It can be challenging enough to keep track of what you post, but you should also keep track of what your friends post and tag you in. Having a naive friend who decides to post about a party that you smartly chose to keep off the web can undo all your work. Check what your friends post about you. Most importantly, dont be afraid to ask them to take things down if they cross the line. Utilize Your Networks One of the most powerful resources that a presence on social websites gives you is a strong network. Across all your subscribed platforms, your network is likely sizable if youve been using them for a while. As a job seeker, you should continue to build these networks into the industries youd like to work in. Following pages of companies within your industry and area of interest will expose you to similar people, and allow you to develop your own personal brand. On these pages and forums be sure to contribute, it will allow you to market yourself and you may even learn something! While there are many different things you can do to make yourself more marketable on social media, these are just a few pieces of advice we wanted to share to make sure youre off to a good start!
